
Join UBC Diabetes study
This study tracks the physical activity of kids using a device worn around the waist. Children aged 5–10 diagnosed with T1D are invited to participate.
The whole study is done from home – no travel or clinic visits needed.
Participating is low-effort, flexible, and can even be fun—some kids might enjoy tracking their movements and being part of a science project.
Compensation for contributing to science will be awarded to all participants.

What does the study involve?
- Child wears a small activity tracker (3 times)
- The tracker is small, weighs 20 grams, and is worn around the waist.
Participants must be:
- Children aged 5–10 diagnosed with T1D are invited to participate.
- Must live in British Columbia.
What will families need to do?
- The whole study is done from home – no travel or clinic visits needed.
- Fill out short online surveys (3 times over 2 years)

Who can Join?
- Children must be 5 to 10 years old.
- Must live in British Columbia.
- Must be diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

The study aims to understand how physical activity patterns develop over time in children with chronic health conditions – particularly Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and congenital heart disease (CHD) – compared to children without such conditions.
