WT601 South Asian Food Study

Join UBC South Asian Food Survey

UBC wants to know what South Asians eat in Canada.

South Asians in Canada have a greater rate of chronic disease than the general population. Diet plays a major role in chronic disease and overall health.

Meanwhile, traditional food surveys done on the Canadian population are missing key Asian foods. This study aims to rectify that by developing a more accurate food survey for South Asians in Canada.

Help researchers know what South Asians eat.

Additional study information

This study aims to create a questionnaire to accurately represent the nutrition intake of the South Asian community.

Diet changes after immigration may play a role in the health issues South Asians face. Traditional food surveys often lack common South Asian foods, making it harder to track these trends.

A South Asian diet is often rich in carbohydrates and low in meat, fish and dairy. After immigrating to Canada, more processed foods are added and overall the diet seems to be lacking in essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), vitamins, antioxidants and important trace minerals.

To join this study, participants first need to pass an online questionnaire:
