Join this UBC research study for teenagers aged 13-16.
Participants get personal training advice, compensation, and a chance to get a POLAR smartwatch. The study aims to make exercising fun and achievable for teens.
Over three months, your teen will work with exercise specialists to create and follow a custom fitness plan. This study includes regular health assessments to track progress.

What does the study involve?
- Simple exercises tailored to teens’ preferences.
- Participate from home with just a few visits to our Kelowna lab.
Participants must be:
- Between 13-16 years old.
- Free from any major heart, lung, or metabolic diseases.
Support
Throughout the program, you’ll receive motivational support and guidance through phone calls or Zoom meetings from the exercise specialist.

Who can Join?
- Between 13-16 years old.
- Able to visit the research lab in Kelowna, at:
1147 Research Road Kelowna, BC Canada V1V 1V7. - Teens with significant health issues such as heart, lung, or metabolic diseases, or who are pregnant, are ineligible.
1. Initial Screening and Consent:
After showing interest, you’ll have an initial meeting (via phone or Zoom) where you’ll learn more about the study and go through a screening to check your eligibility. If you’re eligible and interested, you’ll sign a consent form.
2. Baseline Assessment:
Before starting the exercise program, you’ll come to our lab to complete the first of three detailed health assessments. This will set a baseline to measure changes against.
3. 3-Month Exercise Program
You will participate in a structured 3-month exercise program designed to gradually increase your physical activity. During this period, you’ll have regular check-ins and support.

The study investigates the impact of mobile technology on maintaining regular exercise. It’s a great opportunity for your teen to get active and possibly improve their overall health.
Participants will receive exercise guidance through both direct counseling and a mobile app, which makes tracking progress simple and engaging.
