This is a UBC study on endometriosis and body temperature regulation.

Earn up to $200 and learn more about your body.

The researchers at UBC aim to find out if women with endometriosis have more active brown fat, which might explain their usually lower body weight.

Findings from this study may lead to better care for people with endometriosis.

Additional study information

The researchers at UBC aim to find out if women with endometriosis have more active brown fat, which might explain their usually lower body weight.

The study includes two clinic visits and some tracking done at home. The study takes about 10 hours in total over 2 months.

To measure brown fat activity, participants will wear a cooling suit that circulates cold water. This safely lowers body temperature without causing shivering, which helps activate brown fat. Special thermal cameras then record changes in skin temperature.

Energy use is measured in two ways: one test uses a breathing device to measure how much energy the body burns at rest. The second uses a safe, tasteless drink with special markers, followed by a few urine samples to measure total daily energy use over time.
