What does the study involve?
The University of Alberta has developed an app called Ameya that will help evaluate the health of people living with Chronic Conditions.
Why Join?
- The study concludes with a comprehensive report, with suggestions on how to proceed to improve your health.
- Participation is paid ($20), and takes 90 minutes in total.
- Contribute to research that aims to promote healthy living for all Canadians.
- Get insight into how you compare to other people of your age and gender.
Who can Join?
Men and women over 50 years of age are invited to a research study by the University of Alberta, to evaluate their health.
- Participants need to be above 50 years old.
- A chronic condition, history of cancer, liver cirrhosis, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease, heart failure or Parkinson’s disease
- Able to visit the University of Alberta research center

Additional study information
Ameya is an app developed in cooperation with the University of Alberta. The app is a tracking tool for emotional and physical health.
Ameya tracks how your body moves using AI, how much activity you are doing, what you are eating and how you are feeling.
- Participants get a Garmin smart watch to wear for a week. The watch can be returned in an envelope, which will be provided.
- The study is 1 week long and requires 1 in-person visit for 90 minutes.
- The research team will help install the Ameya app on your phone, carry out some movement testing and show you how to use the app.
- The research team will also show you how you can track what you eat for the next three days.
